FETTY WAP
Willie Maxwell II better known as rapper/singer Fetty Wap, was born and raised in Paterson, New Jersey on June 7, 1991. According to the rapper’s own website, fettywap.com, his stage name pays homage to Gucci Mane, one of Fetty Wap’s idols; Gucci Mane’s nickname is Guwop, so one can see where the influence stemmed from.
Fetty Wap garnered a lot of attention with his early online version of his hit song “Trap Queen.” The rapper uploaded that song to SoundCloud and it was very well received. However, once the artist rerecorded the song for radio, it became a major hit for him in 2014. “Trap Queen” was remixed by major names in hip hop like French Montana, Yo Gotti and Rick Ross. The rapper gained even more success after his record label partnered with 300 Entertainment. The star soon released several other successful records like “My Way” and “ 679.” The “My Way” record has also been remixed with huge rap artist, Drake.
